The non-performing loans (NPL) ratio stood at 2.81% at the end of June 2025, up from 2.53% in March 2025.
In June 2024, the NPL ratio was 2.49%, according to data centralized by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).
At the end of June 2025, Romania had 31 credit institutions, including ten branches of foreign banks. Total assets amounted to 894 billion lei, up by 7 billion lei compared with March 2025 and by 59.4 billion lei year-on-year.
Privately owned institutions accounted for 86.1% of total assets, while foreign-owned institutions represented 63.6%.
