The National Liberal Party (PNL) has decided not to support the inauguration of the government led by Prime Minister-designate Adrian Vestea, given that its appointment was made in violation of the spirit of parliamentary democracy and without consulting the party, and the Liberals who will vote for such an executive will lose their party membership, PNL national leader and acting prime minister Ilie Bilojan said on Monday evening.

"It was a long meeting of the National Political Bureau in which the PNL's position on the proposal of the President of Romania to entrust Mr. Vestea with the formation of a government was clarified in the following sense: PNL will not support the inauguration of such a government, given both the way in which this designation was made, in violation of the spirit of parliamentary democracy, through a nomination of a first vice-president of the PNL without consulting the National Liberal Party. Also, also out of principle, given that the PNL was not notified by Mr Vestea regarding this nomination, and today in our sitting we were announced that, regardless of the vote, it will go through this procedure, for reasons of principles, of strengthening parliamentary democracy and clarifications in the area of the political aspect, the PNL passed this decision 41 to 13 and two abstentions,"Bolojan said after a meeting of the PNL BPN that lasted over five hours.

He added that PNL asked Vestea to resign by Tuesday morning.

"Given that night he is a good adviser, PNL has asked Mr Vestea to submit his resignation before morning at 10:00hrs, given the fact that he does not have the support of the party he comes from," said the PNL leader.

He also showed that the PNL lawmakers who will vote for this government or those who will be part of it will lose their party membership.

"The PNL lawmakers were mandated to proceed according to the formula: here, I do not vote at the next sitting in the Romanian Parliament, in the Romanian Parliament. And the lawmakers or those who could be proposed from the PNL members in such a government, without the support of the PNL, will lose their PNL memberships," Bolojan said.
