Books dedicated to Romanian monuments and sites listed as UNESCO World Heritage and illustrated albums of traditional Romanian costumes have been donated to the Nakanoshima Library in Osaka on behalf of the Romania Pavilion at Expo 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported Friday.

According to an MAE press release, Romania's Commissioner General of the Romania Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka Ferdinand Nagy presented the book donation on Thursday on behalf of the Romania Pavilion to the Nakanoshima Library.

The donation includes volumes on Romanian monuments and sites listed as UNESCO World Heritage - from the painted churches of northern Moldavia to the Dacian fortresses of the Orastie Mountains and the wooden churches of Maramures - showcasing Romania's contribution to universal cultural heritage.

The works also include illustrated albums dedicated to traditional Romanian costume, a true visual language of rural communities preserved carefully over generations. The collection also contains a comparative album of Japanese and Romanian traditional costumes, celebrating cultural dialogue between the two peoples through symbols, colour, and artistic expression.

"Cultural diplomacy is the most beautiful and lasting language of friendship between nations. Through this donation, we aim to offer the Japanese public a window into the Romanian spirit and to strengthen cultural bridges between Romania and Japan," Ferdinand Nagy said.

Representatives of the Nakanoshima Library in Osaka attended the event, including Takashi Saito, Director General, Koichiro Oga, Director, Sonzo Tanishita, Deputy Director, and Hideaki Shibata, head librarian, as well as Carmen Tamas, Professor of Japanese Culture at Hyogo University.

"The presence of the Nakanoshima Library representatives added a special note to the moment, highlighting the appreciation and openness of Japanese institutions toward the cultural cooperation initiatives promoted by the Romania Pavilion," reads the cited source.

The Nakanoshima Library representatives noted that Romania is the only country to have made such a donation, enriching the international book collection of the Osaka Prefectural Central Library and strengthening cultural dialogue between Japan and Romania.

"Through this gesture, Romania reaffirms its active role in promoting cultural diplomacy, demonstrating through its Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka that art and tradition can become true vectors of dialogue, education, and mutual understanding. The Romania Pavilion thus acts as an ambassador of culture and universal values, illustrating the belief that through culture, nations can know, respect, and come closer to each other in a lasting way," the MAE press release adds.
