Border police from the Calafat Border Police Sector discovered, following a check of a minibus, 12 foreign citizens who did not have a valid visa or residence permit to travel in the Schengen area.

"On April 10th, 2025, in the parking lot near the toll station of the Calafat-Vidin bridge, Romanian and Bulgarian border police officers, as part of a joint mission, stopped a minibus registered in Romania for inspection. At the wheel of the minibus was a 40-year-old Romanian citizen. It had twelve passengers of Afro-Asian origin, who did not have identity documents. During the investigation, they declared that they were Syrian, Iraqi and Afghan citizens, aged between 15 and 41," the Border Police informs.

A criminal case was filed against the Romanian driver for committing the crime of migrant smuggling, and the foreign citizens were returned to Bulgaria, Agerpres informs.
