BukFeszt 2024: Hungarian-language theatre from Romania comes to Bucharest, 7 days of unique performances

The third edition of the BukFeszt festival will take place in Bucharest, from September 30 to October 6, at the Odeon Theatre and Metropolis Theatre.

This year's BukFeszt programme includes seven performances, productions of the five MASZIN - Union of Hungarian Theatres in Romania member theatres, which organizes the festival, organizers said on Tuesday.

Founded in 2017, the association aims to promote interethnic dialogue and, at the same time, to increase the visibility of Hungarian-language performances from the provinces in Bucharest. The organizers would like to present defining shows of Hungarian-language theatre in Romania in front of professionals in the field and the Bucharest audience of all ethnicities.

The theatre performances selected in the programme are thematically varied and the interpretation is original. From prose to contemporary dance, from contemporary Hungarian and American texts to classics of universal literature, there will be performances for all tastes, and those who will follow the entire programme will be able to get an overview of the recent repertoire of Hungarian theatres in Romania, the organisers said in a press release sent to AGERPRES.

The opening of the third edition of the BukFeszt festival will take place at the Odeon Theatre on Monday, September 30, at 19:00 with the drama "10" by Szekely Csaba Szekely, directed by Rusznyak Gabor, a production of the Tomcsa Sandor Theatre in Odorheiu Secuiesc.

The Festival will end with the performance of the "Csiky Gergely" Hungarian State Theatre in Timisoara, "The Doctor", directed by Andrei Serban. Robert Icke's play is being staged for the first time in Romania and will be performed on October 6, from 19:00 in the Great Hall of Odeon Theatre.

BukFeszt festival's partners are: Department for Interethnic Relations (DRI), Romanian Association of Theatre Artists (UNITER), Liszt Institute - Hungarian Cultural Center Bucharest, Hungarian Embassy in Romania, Odeon Theatre and Metropolis Theatre.
