According to a release of the Ministry of Business, Commerce and Entrepreneurship (MMACA) sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, Minister Oprea was part of the governmental delegation led by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, who paid an official visit to Turkey on Monday.
At the meetings with Deputy Minister of Trade Gonca Yilmaz Batur and leaders of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, Stefan-Radu Oprea presented the stage of the bilateral relations and proposed solutions for balancing the trade balance by increasing the Romanian exports.
The Romanian side invited Turkish companies to invest in Romania, taking into account the access on the EU market and the good tradition of cooperation between the two business milieus. Also, the 20th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation, which will be co-chaired by Turkey's Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan, was set up by the end of 2018.
"Turkey is Romania's main export market of the community space. The opportunities are huge. In the discussions with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the goal of exceeding 10 billion US dollar in terms of the value of the commercial exchanges has been established. Moreover, the political signal was given to cooperate on third markets and to encourage Turkish investments in Romania," Stefan-Radu Oprea stated.
In the first seven months of 2018, Romania's total value of trade exchanges with Turkey stood at 4.06 billion US dollars, out of which exports worth 1.59 billion US dollars and imports worth 2.47 billion US dollars.
On 31 August 2018, a number of 15,312 companies running on Turkish capital were registered in Romania, with the value of the share capital being the equivalent of 708,99 million US dollars, namely 1.16 percent of the total share capital by foreign investors. According to the value of the share capital, Turkey ranks 17th in the ranking by countries of residence of the investors in foreign companies, between December 1990 and August 2018, 3rd place in the ranking by country of residence according to the number of companies registered in Romania.
