Secretary of State for bilateral and strategic relations in the Euro-Atlantic space with the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) George Ciamba welcomed the ambassador of the United Kingdom in Bucharest, Paul Brummell, the former highlighting the special attention paid by the Romanian Government to protecting the rights of the Romanians working and living in the UK.

The two officials discussed the two countries' good relation and the development potential of the Romanian-British cooperation within the Strategic Partnership.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), the talks focused on issues of interest for the bilateral relation, such as the cooperation in the field of security and defence, the need to continue developing bilateral commercial relations, as well as to identify new domains to strengthen cooperation between Romania and the UK.

"Both officials expressed their hope that the dialogue will keep up the pace and rhythm with which it set off this year, the official visit by His Royal Highness Prince of Wales, with its extremely rich schedule having stood out. The Secretary of State, George Ciamba recalled his recent talks in London, that were also substantial," shows MAE.

MAE mentions that the security and defence domains excel within the Romanian-British cooperation, and in that respect, during the two dignitaries meeting, it was hailed the fact that in 2017 the Romanian-British cooperation in the military domain will most likely be the most intense so far.

Ciamba pointed out the ascending trend of commercial exchanges, which reached an all-time volume record of over 4 billion euro, underscoring the interest for further intensifying economic relations.

"Another topic of the meeting was related to the situation of the Romanian community in the UK, the Secretary of State George Ciamba expressing the special attention that the Romanian Government grants to the protection of the rights of the citizens working and living in this country," indicates MAE.

The talks also approached other topics of mutual interest at a multilateral level, both officials conveying their wish for a closer Romanian-British cooperation within the framework of international organisations.
