Minister of the Environment, Waters and Forestry Tanczos Barna said on Tuesday in Satu Mare that his ministry will carry out this April a nationwide waste collection programme called "Cleaning up Romania" with support from the local administration.
"On April 1, we will release, for the entire month of April, a 'Cleaning up Romania' programme. We have started the organisation with all the administrative-territorial units, with all the town halls. We are preparing funds from the Administration of the Environment Fund so that the cleaning-up expenses may be partially reimbursed by AFM and to sustain transport and collection expenses and those with collection equipment, as well as to support, partially, the expenses incurred by the waste storage at the authorised pits, so that April may be the month in which everyone makes an extra effort in the interest of the environment, in the interest of cleanliness," Tanczos told a news conference.
He added that tough action was needed against those who did not follow the rules of environmental protection, and also precautionary measures.
In the field of prevention, Tanczos underlined that the "Educated Romania" programme will introduce, starting this year, environmental subjects in school curricula, to already existing subject matters such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics any other related subjects, Agerpres informs.
