The National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) has issued a Code Orange for floods for rivers in Suceava, Harghita and Neamt counties throughout Monday.
Also, as of 11:00 pm until Tuesday at 12:00 pm, there will be a Code Orange for floods in force in Caras-Severin, Timis and Mehedinti counties.
"At the same time, the Code Yellow is also active starting today, August 4, as of 12:00 pm, until August 5, at 6:00 pm, on certain river sectors in the counties of: Hunedoara, Arad, Alba, Sibiu, Timis, Caras-Severin, Gorj and Mehedinti. Also within the same code, between August 4, 12:00 pm - August 5, at 9:00 am, the counties of: Maramures, Bistrita-Nasaud, Bihor, Cluj, Salaj, Satu Mare, Harghita, Mures, Brasov, Valcea, Arges, Suceava, Neamt, Bacau, Covasna and Vrancea are also targeted. The targeted phenomena consist of significant leaks on slopes, torrents and streams, flash floods on small rivers, with possible local flooding effects and increases in flows and levels, with the probability of exceeding the alert quotas. Given the high potential for flash floods and local flooding, it is recommended that the population in the affected counties avoid traveling near rivers and strictly follow the instructions of local authorities. People living in areas with a high risk of flooding are advised to secure their belongings and be prepared for temporary evacuation if the situation requires it," the INHGA press release states.
The National Meteorological Administration issued two Code Yellow warnings for rain and storms on Monday. Thus, until Tuesday at 1:00 pm, the warning targets counties in Transylvania, the north and north-west of Moldova, most of Oltenia, the south of Banat and the local mountain area. Also, between August 5, 1:00 pm - August 5, 10:00 am, in Banat, the western half of Oltenia and in southwestern Transylvania there will be significant rainfall. By accumulation, the water quantities will be 20...25 l/sq m and in restricted areas over 40 l/sq m.
