Romania, through the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, has demonstrated that it is capable of implementing large infrastructure projects, and the Constanta - Varna - Alexandropoulis motorway is a desideratum on which we will focus in the immediate future, said the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Ciprian Serban.

According to a press release from the relevant ministry, sent to AGERPRES on Thursday, the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening cross-border cooperation within the Black Sea - Aegean Sea Transport Corridor Platform took place at the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels.

The event dedicated to the signing of this document brought together high-level representatives of the relevant ministries of Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, the European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB) on Wednesday.

The initiative is part of the new framework of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and aims to develop a modern, sustainable and interoperable infrastructure, as well as to strengthen regional resilience, necessary to respond to new security challenges and military mobility needs.

In the context of the discussions in Brussels, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Ciprian Serban, appreciated the support shown by the European Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas.

"There is a major concern both from the European Commission, but also from the citizens of the three countries, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece, for the implementation of these transport corridors. Romania, through the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, has demonstrated that it is capable of implementing large infrastructure projects. The Constanta - Varna - Alexandropoulis motorway is a goal on which we will focus in the immediate future", said Serban.

For his part, the Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, stressed that the commitment from the three member states "marks a decisive step in strengthening an essential strategic corridor that ensures the north-south and south-east connections of Europe".

"By strengthening cooperation, we strengthen connectivity for citizens, the business milieu and strengthen security, connectivity and resilience between the Aegean Sea, the Black Sea and Bulgaria", he said.

In this context, both the Thessaloniki - Promachonas - Kulata and Alexandroupolis - Varna - Constanta routes were mentioned, as well as the Danube, as a factor of connectivity between the states.

"Romania has mature infrastructure projects and we cannot afford to fail in their implementation. Romania wants to prioritize the financing and implementation of infrastructure improvement projects on corridors such as Calafat - Craiova - Bucharest, but also in the Ploiesti - Siret section. The preparation of the project for the second bridge over the Danube in Giurgiu, with CEF financing, is a clear example of cross-border cooperation between Bulgaria and Romania," said State Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Ionut Savoiu.

Officials from Romania, Greece and Bulgaria supported the objectives of this major project and expressed their countries' commitment to work closely on the development of transport infrastructure, an example of European solidarity.
