The Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) conveyed, on Monday, on the occasion of Constitution Day, that the independence of justice, constitutionally guaranteed, remains the "foundation stone" of a solid democratic society.

"On this day of significance for our constitutional identity, the CSM emphasizes the importance of protecting the principles enshrined in the Constitution and the common responsibility of the three powers in the state to respect and promote them. The independence of the judiciary, constitutionally guaranteed, remains the cornerstone of a solid democratic society, which guarantees and defends these essential values and which, at the same time, consolidates a legal culture based on respect for the law and for the rights, freedoms and dignity of every citizen," the Council states in a statement sent to AGERPRES.

The Superior Council of Magistracy reaffirms the fundamental role of the Romanian Constitution in guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of citizens and in consolidating the rule of law.

"The Constitution represents the commitment of Romanian society to the values of democracy, equity and justice, providing the necessary framework for the independent functioning of justice and the balance between the powers of the state," the quoted source says.
