Minister of Culture Demeter Andras Istvan held a meeting with the US Ambassador to Romania, Darryl Nirenberg, during which discussions focused on, among other topics, the progress of the bilateral agreement aimed at combating the illicit trafficking of cultural goods.
"The discussions primarily addressed the American proposal to mark US Independence Day, on July 4th, by illuminating representative buildings and cultural institutions in Romania. There was openness expressed for this initiative, with the Ministry of Culture set to review the proposal and provide a list of buildings from major cities of the country," according to a Culture Ministry post on Facebook, on Wednesday.
Another important topic was the advancement of efforts to finalize the bilateral agreement on combating the illicit trafficking of cultural goods. The US side informed that they would soon announce the visit period for the experts who will contribute to finalising the technical stages of this process.
According to the quoted source, the complexity of the subjects discussed and the themes that may be addressed in future meetings highlight the need for a coherent and predictable framework through the codification of cultural legislation under the umbrella of the cultural framework law.
