The Culture Ministry will propose a tighter legislative framework for the conditions under which exhibitions can be held abroad; a relevant draft government decision was to be released on Friday on the institution's website, Minister Natalia Intotero announced.
"We are working on tightening the legislative framework for organizing this type of exhibitions. Today we will come up with a proposal to modify these terms through a government resolution which will regulate these exhibitions, these exports of items. This government resolution will be in the decisional transparency procedure for 15 days. The institutions that will subsequently greenlight the act (...) will come up with additions. But we will also hold debates where we will invite all experts in the field to put forward proposals for improving the legislative framework," the culture minister told broadcaster B1 TV.
Intotero pointed out that these rules were established by experts of the Culture Ministry's Heritage Directorate and of the Legal Service, and that all experts in the field will be invited to suggest improvements.
"I believe that, through a joint effort, we can set a firmer legislation in place that allows for the organization of such exhibitions, and we will also have to decide, together with experts, what items should be allowed to be taken out of the country and how. The security and safety of these goods should also be firmly dealt with, following the example of other EU countries. My colleagues are working together with experts from other EU countries that organize such exhibitions. We take all the best from them, of course in cooperation and with the contribution of our experts," said the culture minister.
Intotero mentioned that she did not receive any information from the Dutch authorities about the status of the investigation into the heist at the Drents Museum in Assen, nor the report of the Prime Minister's Control Body, which carried out verifications at the National Museum of Romanian History and at the Ministry of Culture on the procedures applied for the organization of the Dacian treasure exhibition at the Drents Museum.
"I am waiting for the report of the Prime Minister's Control Body to officially come in. For now, I have only read the press release. We are waiting to see the conclusions and the measures that they will request," the minister also said.
