The decree appointing Siegfried Muresan as prime minister-designate was published in the Official Journal of Romania on Monday.
President Nicusor Dan designated MEP Siegried Muresan, as prime minister on Thursday, following consultations at the Cotroceni Palace with the leaders and representatives of the parties and political groups in Parliament.
He said he chose Muresan, his "first option," because he received the most votes from the parties attending the consultations.
"Romania needs a Government. We do not have a clear majority despite all these hours of talks, so I chose to designate, to propose for the position of prime minister, the person who received the most votes from the parties at today's consultations. And that person is Siegfried Muresan. Beyond the fact that he was proposed by the three parties, he is someone with experience in the European Parliament, a person who has negotiated important matters over time. Thus, he has the expertise for this position," the head of state said on Thursday.
According to the Constitution of Romania (Article 103, paragraph 2) "the candidate to the office of Prime Minister shall, within ten days of his designation, seek the vote of confidence of Parliament upon the programme and complete list of the Government."
