The National Defence Ministry (MApN) representatives denied the information circulated in the public space according to which the drone shot down on Friday had flown over or near military bases.
During a press conference, the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Gheorghita Vlad, was asked by a journalist if the drone had flown over military bases in Romania, the press representative bringing as an argument a map with the aircraft's route.
"A map made by 'military specialists'", Gheorghita Vlad replied ironically.
In the context, the Chief of the Defense Staff denied that the drone had flown over or near military bases, such as those in Fetesti or Boboc.
Also, the representatives of the Ministry of Defense specified that the drone did not pass over the Cernavoda nuclear power plant.
General Gheorghita Vlad asked journalists not to provide too many operational details.
"From open sources, everything we are declaring now can be analyzed, many technical and operational details can be extracted, which would endanger our military operations," explained the Chief of Staff.
He claimed that it is possible that incidents like the one on Friday will occur again.
"I believe that such events will happen again. We are in the period when the threshing in Ukraine is ending. The neighboring country is one of the largest grain exporters in the world. A corridor is being established in the vicinity of our territorial waters, and here I refer to the territorial waters of Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, so that this transit can take place properly. We will have an influx of ships in the area. Our Danube and Black Sea ports will be quite crowded and of course this will give rise to a series of vulnerabilities, including those targeting ships that supply, that serve Ukraine's exports in the vicinity of our territorial waters," said the Chief of Staff.
A Romanian Air Force F-16 aircraft that had taken off from the 86th Air Base in Fetesti shot down a drone with a missile on Friday, more than an hour after it entered national airspace, the strike taking place over an uninhabited area, near the town of Padina in Buzau County, after the foreign aircraft was monitored during its route.
Two Eurofighter Typhoon fighter aircraft of the Italian Air Force from the 57th Air Base Mihail Kogalniceanu, located in the Air Policing Combat Service, were also involved in the operation.
