The Minister of National Defense, Ionut Mosteanu, met on Thursday, in Brussels, with his Belgian counterpart, Theo Francken, in which context they discussed also bilateral collaboration and that within the EU and NATO, including security in the Black Sea region.
According to a press release from the Ministry of National Defense sent to AGERPRES, on the sidelines of the Meeting of Defense Ministers from NATO member countries, which took place in Brussels, Liviu-Ionut Mosteanu held consultations on Thursday with his Belgian federal counterpart, Theo Francken.
"The meeting was an opportunity to deepen the bilateral dialogue in the military field, given that the cooperation between the two countries is substantial, proven by the presence of the Belgian military contingent within the NATO Multinational Group at Cincu. The discussions highlighted the commitment of the Kingdom of Belgium to the defense of NATO's Eastern Flank and the excellent Romanian-Belgian cooperation in this context," the press release states.
The two officials also discussed bilateral cooperation and that within the EU and NATO, including security in the Black Sea region, the Ministry of Defense notes, adding that the potential for cooperation in developing military production capacities and in capitalizing on European funds earmarked for investments in the defense industry was highlighted.
"During the official visit to Belgium, the minister of national defense visited the production capacities of the FN Herstal company, a leader in the field of defense technologies. On this occasion, concrete opportunities for industrial collaboration were explored for the development and transfer of technology, for the benefit of both national defense industries," the Ministry of National Defense also said.
