Romania's Deputy Prime Minister Ana Birchall saluted the adoption by the United States House of Representatives of the Resolution celebrating the Centennial of Romania's Great Union of 1918.
"We salute the adoption by the United States House of Representatives of the Resolution celebrating the Centennial of Romania's Great Union of 1918, evidence of the historical bond between Romania and the United States of America and the excellent cooperation within the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States of America," a press release sent on Thursday by the deputy prime minister informs.
According to the cited source, the development, consolidation and deepening of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the USA is "a strong objective bolstered by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and the Romanian Government and assumed in the governing program."
"The Romanian Government appreciates the constant support of the United States throughout its history, in its democratic development, since 1918, when the United States supported Romania's aspirations for freedom and unity, based on President Woodrow Wilson's 14 points, marking a strong bond of friendship between the two nations," the release shows.
It mentions that 2018 was an "exceptional year" in the development and deepening of the Strategic Partnership, including through the series of political and diplomatic contacts with senior representatives of the US administration, a trend that the Dancila Government will promote in the next period as well.
"We thank the Republican and Democrat initiators: Michael Turner and Dan Lipinski, co-chairpersons of the U.S. Congress's Friendship Group for Romania, Jackie Walorski, member of the Friendship Group for Romania, and Gregory Meeks, Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats, as well as all members of the US House of Representatives and the US Administration for this resolution, a token of the Romanian-US appreciation and friendship," says Birchall.
The press release highlights the message of the Resolution adopted by the House of Representatives: "Whereas 100 years after the Great Union of 1918, Romania stands together with the United States, as a strategic partner and NATO ally, which has faithfully contributed to building and defending a Europe whole, free, and at peace, and has demonstrated its commitment to sharing the burden of our collective transatlantic security."
