Save Romania Union (USR) chairman Dominic Fritz attended a meeting in Brussels of the leaders of parties belonging to the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament, telling them that his party would move into opposition to the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Government and would not allow Romania to 'become isolated' from Europe.

'Many questions were raised about the situation in Romania at the meeting of liberal leaders in Brussels. I told the prime ministers, commissioners and leaders of liberal parties that we will not allow the country to become isolated from Europe. USR will move into opposition to the PSD Government, where we will be a strong voice for the rule of law and for real solutions to improve the lives of Romanians,' the USR leader wrote on Facebook on Friday, agerpres reports.

According to Fritz, participants at the meeting expressed their solidarity as well as their 'concern' about the current situation.

'Among our partners, I see a great deal of concern, but also solidarity with everyone involved in the fight for a fair Romania that delivers results for its people, as USR ministers have done. I am proud to see that many people look with admiration at the resilience and creativity of Romanian society. In Europe, where the cold winds of extremism are blowing everywhere, USR remains one of the strongest reformist parties, standing firm,' Fritz added.
