Dozens of police officers, members of the National Police Trade Union (SNAP), are picketing today the Interior Ministry, showing their dissatisfaction with working conditions and wages.
The officers are playing vuvuzelas and carrying banners reading "Politicienilor, ati nenorocit Politia Romana" (Politicians, you have destroyed the Romanian Police); "Politisti in slujba cetatenilor, nu in slujba politicienilor" (Police officers serving the citizens, not politicians); "Suntem prizonierii incompetentei voastre" (We are prisoners of your incompetence).
SNAP Chairman Iulian Surugiu told AGERPRES that there are many things that need to be solved at the Interior Ministry, and that a whole system reset is needed to "provide quality services to the citizens."
"Today we are in front of the Ministry of the Interior to make us heard and to sound an alarm; there are many things to be solved within the Ministry of the Interior, things that have been brought to the attention of the ministry's management, and unfortunately things are moving on very, very slowly. We're talking about resetting the entire system so we can provide our citizens with quality services."
Asked about what he will do after the picketing is over, Surugiu said that on Saturday, March 24, about 10,000 people will convene in a protest before the Interior Ministry, followed by a protest march to the Government House in Piata Victoriei.
"After the picketing, on March 24, that is Saturday, we will stage a mass protest in front of the Interior Ministry, marching to the Government House, where there will be about 10,000 people. Today we have only called 100 people, that is why we have are standing before the office of the interior minister so that she can see us, and to sound the alarm that the Police are dissatisfied," said Surugiu.
