Two Romanian nationality babies from Ukraine, a five-day old boy and a 14-day old girl, with serious health issues, which are to be treated in hospitals in Timisoara and Bucharest.
According to the Department for Emergency Situations, the two newborns were transported on Monday with a Ukrainian ambulance to the border crossing with Romania, in Siret, being then turned over to waiting Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD) crews.
"In view of the urgent operationalization of the entire complex rescue mission the resources in proximity were immediately activated," shows the DSU Facebook page.
Thus, the five-day old boy was taken with a SMURD helicopter of the Iasi Aeromedical Operating Point to the Suceava airport and then was turned over to the SMURD medical crews serving the Cessna Citation V craft, configured for medical evacuation missions.
He was transported safely to Timisoara to continue medical treatment.
The second newborn was transported overland, with a SMURD ambulance, to the Suceava airport, being taken over by the same SMURD helicopter, who transported her safely to Iasi. Once the SMURD craft concludes, the girl under medical care in Iasi will be urgently transported to Bucharest.
"We want to thank all the rescuers that submitted immense efforts in saving the two newborns, namely the medical teams deployed at the Siret Border Crossing Point with the Oradea, Mures, Cluj, Bacau SMURD UPUs [Emergency Reception Unit], as well as the SMURD crews with the Bucharest SMURD UPU and the Iasi SMURD UPU, aboard the aircraft, which gave medical assistance to the two babies throughout the flights," the quoted source also shows.
