Mirabela Gradinaru, life partner of President Nicusor Dan, sent a message on Saturday to mark World Mental Health Day, calling for more care, greater understanding and more courage to talk about mental health, pointing out that no one should feel ashamed of going through a difficult period, according to Agerpres.

"Today, on World Mental Health Day, I want us to talk about something that concerns every one of us, about how we feel, the worries we carry and the courage to say when we need help: I am not OK, I need help. Sometimes, behind a smile lies a worry, behind a quiet child there may be a fear, behind someone who seems strong there may be a struggle that nobody knows about. That is why it is important to pay more attention to one another, to listen without judging, to ask: how are you? And to be ready to truly listen to the answer," Mirabela Gradinaru said in a video message on Facebook.

She pointed out that "no one should feel ashamed of going through a difficult period."

"Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, it is an act of courage and care for one's own life. This support is all the more important for children and adolescents. They need to know that their emotions matter, that they can talk about what is hurting them and that they do not have to go through difficult moments alone," Mirabela Gradinaru pointed out.

Mirabela Gradinaru called for a "society in which mental health is viewed with understanding, not stigma, with empathy, not judgement."

"Let us take care of ourselves, take care of one another and, above all, remember that sometimes a simple 'I am here for you' can mean a great deal. On World Mental Health Day, I invite you to join me in choosing more care, greater understanding and more courage to speak out, because mental health matters to every one of us," Mirabela Gradinaru said.
