Classes will be suspended on Wednesday, 8 October, in all pre-university education institutions in the counties of Constanta, Ialomita, and Calarasi, the Ministry of Education and Research announced.
'Based on information received so far from the county school inspectorates, and taking into account the weather warnings issued by the National Meteorological Administration, the County Committees for Emergency Situations decided to suspend classes in all pre-university education institutions on Wednesday, 8 October, in the counties of Constanta, Ialomita and Calarasi,' the Ministry informed.
According to the same source, the boards of administration of the schools affected by the suspension will decide on how the missed classes will be recovered.
The Ministry pointed out that the information was received by 11:00 AM this morning and will be updated based on how the situation develops and on decisions made by the relevant county or Bucharest municipal emergency committees.
Meteorologists extended the Code Red warning for heavy rain to include five counties and the city of Bucharest. The warning is due to come into effect on Tuesday evening at 21:00.
According to the latest alerts from the National Meteorological Administration, between 21:00 on 7 October and 15:00 on 8 October, torrential and abundant rainfall is expected in the counties of Constanta, Calarasi, Ialomita, Giurgiu, Ilfov and in Bucharest. Isolated thunderstorms may also occur, and in short periods or cumulatively, rainfall amounts could reach 80-100 l/sqm, and locally even 120-140 l/sqm.
