The Ministry of Education specifies that the information circulated in the public space regarding the disappearance of approximately 30,000 positions in the 2025-2026 school year, compared to the previous school year, derives ''from an incomplete understanding of the functioning of the pre-university education system with regard to the establishment of teaching norms''.

According to the Ministry, the positions referred to are those for which employment is made for a fixed period, with hourly pay, the contracts being concluded during the duration of school courses, agerpres reports.

"These positions are not remunerated during school holidays. Therefore, annually, during school holidays, the total number of teaching positions is significantly reduced, the hourly pay rates not being included in this total. Some of these positions are re-established at the beginning of the school year, depending on the needs of the system for covering teaching rates, being occupied by teachers employed under the same hourly pay regime," the ministry explains, in a statement sent to AGERPRES on Monday.

This school year, fixed-term positions with hourly pay were reduced from approximately 30,000 to approximately 16,000, the difference in hours being found predominantly in the norms of full-time and substitute teachers, the cited source also specifies.
