Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan believes that Bucharest would be better administered by a mayor with the legitimacy of the vote and announces that the date of the elections for the Capital City Hall could be set next week, and otherwise, they cannot be held in the autumn.

"It would be possible to organize the elections this autumn, it would be possible to postpone them to the spring. From my point of view, the sooner we organize them, the more we are in the spirit of the law. It is true that we are already with an extension of, let's say, 10 days beyond that period, but we are in a situation where there are different approaches in the Coalition. By forcing it, you could at some point set the elections as a Government, but things need to be analyzed very carefully. If some elections generate a scandal in the coalition... And so it is not easy to keep four parties, which have different approaches, plus the minority group, from taking such measures and you see that sometimes part of the energy you would have is consumed with these discussions or postponing. Anyway, there are some obvious things. An interim mayor has a diminished authority compared to a mayor who has a popular vote behind, which has legitimacy", Bolojan said on Prima TV on Friday, according AGERPRES.

He appreciated the activity of the current interim mayor general, but pointed out that "provisional measures are not long-term solutions".

"The current interim mayor general is doing his duty, I see him being involved, working every day, calling for different projects. But the sooner the elections in Bucharest were held and there was a mayor who had all the legitimacy, the more I believe that some conditions would be met for Bucharest to be administered as well as possible (...) and that means development. When you have 25% of Romania's GDP in Bucharest and another 15% in the metropolitan area, if this GDP is going well, it means that it is like a locomotive for our country. I believe that we should decide next week at the latest, because if it is not decided, it cannot be held this autumn. There is a period of at least 35 days that must exist between the date of the announcement and the date of the elections. I do not think that you can enter the month of December with elections in Bucharest", added Bolojan.
