The minister of energy, Bogdan Ivan, convened the Energy Command on Wednesday, in the context of the latest weather forecasts announcing a sudden drop in temperature and a Code Red for several counties in the southern part of the country.
According to the Code Red warning issued by the National Meteorological Administration (ANM), valid until Wednesday, 3.00 pm, in the counties of Constanta, Calarasi, Ialomita, Giurgiu, Ilfov and in the municipality of Bucharest, there will be torrential, abundant rains, with electrical discharges in some areas, and the quantities of water are expected to exceed between 80 and 100 l/sq m, and even up to 120...140 l/sq m in some parts.
Also, a Code Orange alert will be in place until 11.00 pm, announcing heavy rains in Muntenia, in the southern half of Moldova, Dobrogea, southeastern Transylvania and Oltenia, where water quantities are expected to reach 60 up to 90 l/sq m and even up to 100 l/sq m in some parts.
A Code Yellow warning of heavy rainfalls, wind intensification and sleet at altitudes above 1,700 m has also been issued.
Thus, locally, in northern Moldova, southern Transylvania, eastern and southern Oltenia and in the western Southern Carpathians, the quantities of accumulated water will reach 25 up to 30 l/sq m and even up to 40-50 l/sq m, in some parts.
On the other hand, the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) has also established a Code Red for floods on the rivers of Dobrogea, Constanta and Tulcea counties, valid until Wednesday, at 12.00 am.
A Code Orange was also issued for rivers in several river basins, in several counties, as well as a Code Yellow, also for rivers in several basins, in several counties.
