The Romanian national team left the European Football Championship - EURO 2024, hosted by Germany, after being defeated by the Dutch team with a score of 3-0 (1-0), on Tuesday evening, at the Football Arena from Munich, in the round of 16, according to Agerpres.

The adventure of the tricolors at EURO 2024 ended painfully, versus a team that played their best game in the tournament, after disappointing performances in the group.

Cody Gakpo (20) and Donyell Malen (83, 90+3) scored the goals of a deserved but perhaps too drastic victory.

The first quarter of an hour belonged to the team coached by Edward Iordanescu, who played bravely and aggressively and had a good chance to score, but Man sent a little over the goal from the central area (14).

The Netherlands had the first opportunity in the min. 6, but Simons' long shot did not cause problems for Nita.

Ronald Koeman's team opened the scoring quickly, through Gakpo (20), who easily dribbled past Ratiu and scored at the near post, with a shot that surprised Nita.

Romania tried to react, and Hagi (21) sent near the goal, and Man was blocked in the box by Ake (24), after Stanciu's cross.

De Vrij (26) was close to increasing the advantage, but his header from 6 meters, at a corner, went into the side net.

Dragusin (31) was providential in front of Depay, after which the tricolors received another blow, Mogos getting injured in a collision with Dumfries (32). Thus, Iordanescu had to improvise again, with Racovitan in the center and Burca on the left flank of the defense.

Racovitan (44) lost a ball on the back line, but Simons sent it wide of the goal from 10 meters.

The first half ended with a weak shot sent by Dragus, without problems for Verbruggen (45+2).

In the second half, the Dutch were very close to the second goal, but Dragusin blocked Malen, and Ratiu and Racovitan intervened on Depay's shot.

Reijnders (57) shot from the edge of the box near the goal, van Dijk (58) got up and resumed with his head at the corner, but the ball hit the crossbar, Nita stood out at the ball sent by Gakpo (59) at the short corner.

Gakpo was again in the foreground, but Nita rejected his shot from 20 meters (62), after which the Liverpool striker scored from the small box, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Depay (68) and Veerman (73) sent just wide of the target, Razvan Marin's (79) clearance in Simons being dangerous, the ball passing close to the goal.

Romania did not manage to build any dangerous phase in the second half.

In addition, the Netherlands scored (83) through Malen, from the small box.

While the tricolors were looking for the goal of honor, the fast Malen escaped on the counterattack and scored the third goal of the Netherlands (90+3).

The defeat confirms the complex that Romania has in front of the Netherlands, with a win in 15 straight matches (11 wins for the Dutch, three draws) and a goal difference of 32-3 for the "mechanical orange". This was the fifth victory in a row for the Dutch.

In the quarterfinals, the Netherlands will play against the winner between Austria and Turkey.

Romania had a good final tournament, fulfilling their objective of getting past the group stage and did so from the group winning position, beating Ukraine (3-0), losing to Belgium (0-2) and drawing with Slovakia (1-1).
