The first demonstration races of the Metropolitan Train on the connection between the North Station and the Obor Station, exhibitions of vintage trains and vehicles, debates on mobility solutions and the management of the shared public space will take place during the European Week of of Mobility, between September 16 and 22, 2024.
According to a press release of the Bucharest-Ilfov Intercommunity Development Association for Public Transport (TPBI), delivered to AGERPRES on Monday, the European Mobility Week is an annual campaign organized with the support of the European Commission, which encourages communities on the continent to implement and to promote measures for sustainable transport. The same source shows that citizens have the chance to test alternatives to the use of cars, thus contributing to reducing pollution and improving the quality of life.
The theme "Shared Public Space" was chosen this year to emphasise the importance of managing public space in a fair and responsible way. This highlights the need to create urban environments where everyone, including pedestrians and cyclists, can move safely and comfortably.
"The events organized by TPBI and its partners aim to encourage communities to decide collectively how to use public spaces to ensure equitable access and to promote sustainable mobility," the release states.
Thus, the Romanian Association for Smart City (ARSC) and TPBI, in partnership with the Capital City Hall, are organizing, on September 19, the conference #SharedPublicSpeakers: Urban Mobility and Reorganization of Public Space: Prioritizing Sustainable Transport at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the City of Bucharest. The conference is an opportunity to talk with leaders in the field of urban mobility and to explore concrete solutions for the future of our cities. The participants will learn from European experiences and will have the opportunity to contribute to strategic discussions essential for sustainable development. The objectives of the Conference are: promoting the concept of "shared public space", discussing the relationship between urban planning and mobility, identifying technological solutions for urban mobility and facilitating the exchange of best practices from Europe.
On September 20, at the Bucharest City Museum, the "Principium Mobilitas" project is organized by the Department of the Environment-Urban Ecology Service of the Capital City Hall in collaboration with TPBI and the aim is to promote sustainable mobility, to present the evolution of Bucharest transport with the benefits on the development of the city, the reduction/mitigation of polluting gas emissions and the negative effects on the quality of the environment caused by excessive traffic, as well as highlighting the importance of managing public space in a fair way.
The #ShareSpaceForKidsAndPets action organized on September 21, in Mogosoaia Park, is intended for children to involve them in a fun and interactive way and to promote education in sustainable mobility. Children from the "Casa Sperantei DGASPC Sector 4" centre will carry out sports activities and create drawings illustrating creative and representative ways related to the "Common Public Space" theme.
Also, the promotion of sustainable mobility in the context of the theme of the European Mobility Week will be carried out, between September 21-22, at the North Station, through a series of initiatives organized in the capital's main railway hub, the North Station.
