The Library of the Romanian Academy is launching on Tuesday the final three volumes in the series History of the Library of the Romanian Academy (1867-2025),' which bring the post-communist period to the attention of readers.
The event, which will take place in the Aula of the Romanian Academy, will feature speeches by Academician Marius Andruh, President of the Romanian Academy, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, and Professor Engineer Nicolae Noica, Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy and Director General of the Library of the Romanian Academy.
Launched in 2022 to mark the 155th anniversary of the Library's establishment, the project was conceived as a comprehensive effort to recover the institution's collective memory, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES.
The first volume was published in 2022, followed by three volumes in 2023, another three in 2024, a further three in 2025 and, in 2026, the final three volumes, which bring the post-communist period to the attention of readers.
In just five years, this idea has developed into a remarkable historiographical undertaking: thirteen volumes tracing the Library's evolution from 1867 to 2025, from the first donations and the beginnings of its collections to the institution's transformation into a modern library connected to the digital world, the same source says.
On behalf of the Romanian Academy, I would like to thank everyone who conceived, researched and wrote the thirteen volumes in this series, as well as those who, for almost 160 years, have built, day by day, the heritage whose story we can tell today. Special thanks must go to Professor and Director Nicolae St. Noica, Honorary Member of the Academy, who initiated and oversaw this project! And one more thing: such a series can only be produced by those who love the institution, with dedication and care for the treasures accumulated from the Academy's establishment to the present day,' said Academician Marius Andruh, President of the Romanian Academy.
