Valcea county authorities on Monday asked for air support to extinguish a fire that broke on Monday afternoon in the Racovita locality and spread to the nearby broadleaf and coniferous forest nearby due to the strong winds.
The representatives of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) Valcea specified that the 10-ha of land were found in an area that is difficult to reach even by foot, and that houselholds existed close to that area too.
"We've asked for air support, which is possibly to arrive tomorrow. At this point the fire covers a surface of approximately 10 hectares of dry vegetation, canopy, litter, fells, moss, in a mixed broadleaf and coniferous fores, in a mountainous area, at an altitude of 600 metres. Action is taken with priority to protect the houses in the vicinity of the fire, simultaneously with the extinguishing operations. There are no victims or affected homes," stated the spokesperson of ISU Valcea, Sorin Albinaru.
According to the representative of ISU Valcea, there are 20 firefighters now at the location, who are helped by the locals and the staff of the Voluntary Service for Emergency Situations (SVSU) Racovita.
