"DigiLocal," the first integrated programme of local public administrations digitisation, will be launched on September 19, Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitisation Bogdan Ivan announced on Thursday.

"City halls and county councils are the institutions with which Romanians interact most often. We have therefore proposed to start digitising all UATs [territorial administrative units] in Romania! Municipalities will receive 75,000 lei, cities 125,000 lei, municipalities 175,000 lei and county councils 250,000 lei. (...) Funding will be granted on a first come, first served basis," the minister wrote on Facebook.

"I know that interest in DigiLocal has been very high and I am grateful to all those who have contributed to shaping this unique programme. I thank Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu for his support: we are financing digital transformation at local level and making digital public services accessible to all Romanians," added the minister.

The DigiLocal programme, managed by the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitisation, proposes four major benefits for local administrations and citizens:

* the interconnection of the information systems of town halls and county councils with Ghiseul.ro, the official online payment platform of the Romanian state, for the simple, fast and secure purchase of digital public services;

* the development of standard interfaces for communication with citizens, sites that can be accessed with a few clicks, so that Romanians can easily and securely use electronic public services;

* strengthening cybersecurity at local government level, because local digital services are the most accessed by citizens;

* acquisition of IT equipment to increase administrative capacity and ensure interoperability, so that Romanians will no longer make unnecessary trips and wait in lines.
