Romania's Special Operations Forces and the George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Targu Mures, presented on Tuesday, during the UMFST Days, the project of the series of international military conferences, with a focus on Special Operations Forces, Southeast Europe Special Operations Forces Forum 2025 (SEESOF), the first edition being planned for July 2025.
The Commander of the Special Operations Forces Command, Major General Claudiu-Ovidiu Dobocan, said that the series of multinational conferences will focus on the South East Europe area of interest and will target special operations forces.
"Next year's conference will include a conceptual dimension, an academic discussion dimension and, of course, a technical exhibition part, so that we understand that the strategies of the future are connected with technology and with ideas reverberating from the academia (...). The Southeast European area includes 12 nations on the map, but we are targeting around 30 international partners, both governmental, academic and industrial, and we are trying to bring to the attention of the European Union and NATO the importance of the Southeast European region, the connection with the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea (...). The event is not necessarily related to the conflict zone in our vicinity. It is a moment of maturation of the international cooperation arrangements, in which Romania plays a leadership role. It is basically the manifestation of the development of forces, of capabilities, which today have reached maturity and it is time to start exporting security through this special operations component," said Major General Claudiu-Ovidiu Dobocan.
The Commander of the Special Operations Forces Command pointed out that Romania is a leading nation in relations with many other partners and plays a special role not only in the Eastern European neighborhood, but also outside the continent.
The Rector of UMFST Targu Mures, Leonard Azamfirei, emphasized that this military forum will combine a modern concept of military and civilian forces, it will have a very strong identity, but it will also be a message of stability.
"This is an important event in many ways. On the one hand, because it is a modern concept of military and civilian forces and, after all, the two parts are complementary, necessary in a European country. On the other hand, it shows the complementarity between the military component of the special forces and the fact that in Targu Mures there has been a very long-standing, good quality medical-military education and, last but not least, I would say that it is a message of stability (. ..) I am convinced that by combining the message and the expertise of the Special Forces with that of the organizers, with the University as a neutral academic environment, the event will be an international one, of great resonance. After all, we are talking about Romania, and Targu Mures is Romania in every way," said Leonard Azamfirei.
The Prefect of Mures County, Ovidiu Butuc, said that Targu Mures is the right place for the Southeast Europe Special Operations Forces Forum 2025, given that it hosts a leading entity in the field of special operations forces.
"I believe there is no better place to host this event. I strongly believe that this conference is an ambitious project, with national and international impact, which reaffirms the importance of collaboration in the military and security fields. (...) The event we are launching today marks the beginning of an important tradition for Mures County. SEESOF 2025 is not just a conference, but a bridge between specialists, decision-makers and partners in the military field," said the Prefect of Mures County, Ovidiu Butuc.
SEESOF 2025 is an event to be organized every two years, in the form of an international conference dedicated to the military field, with a focus on Special Operations Forces, and the first edition of this event is announced for June 3-5, 2025.
