Romania's Foreign Affairs Minister Emil Hurezeanu participated on Tuesday, in the informal video teleconference of the EU foreign ministers, convened by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, to discuss recent developments in the Middle East, with a focus on Israel and Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) informs.
During the talks, minister Hurezeanu expressed deep concern about the escalation of the security situation in the Middle East, given the danger of a full-scale crisis in the region, the cited source shows.
The head of Romanian diplomacy stressed the need for de-escalating the situation and the resumption of diplomatic efforts to ensure a negotiated and verifiable solution on the Iranian nuclear program.
He reconfirmed his commitment to Israel's security and supported the need to increase pressure on the Tehran regime to comply with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) standards and to return to the dialogue table.
Given the impact of the events in the region, the Romanian Foreign minister submitted for discussion the possibility for EU member states to drat a joint request aimed at facilitating the repatriation of nationals stranded in Israel and/or Iran (humanitarian corridors).
