Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Bogdan Aurescu presented his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto the situation at the border between Romania and Hungary and he reiterated the request on considering, in the context of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, speeding up the control procedures in the case of Ukrainian citizens coming to the Hungarian-Romanian border and not owning a biometric passport as well as introducing new measures to reduce the waiting times at the border, a Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) release sent to AGERPRES reads.

According to MAE, the Romanian side suggested introducing additional specialist staff at the border crossing points with Romania, for using all access lanes to the border crossing point, where such a measure is applicable (for instance at the Nadlac II Border Crossing Point).

Thus, there have been indicated the border crossing points with the highest waiting times: Petea, Bors, Nadlac II, Urziceni, Bors II.

Minister Aurescu on Wednesday had two telephone conversations with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto, in continuation to their conversation last week.

The demarche of the Romanian chief diplomat comes in addition to those conducted by the Romanian Foreign Ministry as early as Tuesday evening, March 8, by addressing these requests in writing, both through Romania's Embassy in Budapest and directly to Hungary's Embassy in Bucharest.

Minister Szijjarto reconfirmed on this occasion to his Romanian counterpart that the measures established during their previous conversation stay valid, namely that the Hungarian authorities are allowing the entrance on the territory of Hungary of people without biometric passport and, in coordination with the relevant authorities, demarches would be initiated to identify at the shortest time possible the measures required to ease the border crossing procedure and transit, MAE also points out.
