The Ministry of Environment will carry out a generalized control on the beaches in Romania, to see whether the situation in Navodari is not happening on all the beaches, Minister of Environment Diana Buzoianu declared on Monday.

"We are looking at carrying out a much more generalized control on the beaches in Romania, because we want to see whether this situation in Navodari is a special, exceptional situation, or if it is actually a situation that happens on absolutely all the beaches in Romania. And we will have this control done next month", Buzoianu told a press conference.

She had previously announced that Apele Romane Corporation had decided not to extend the rental contracts for the beach segment in Navodari, following a control that revealed that out of the 75 contracts, 62, or about 80%, had illegal constructions on that space.

On the other hand, Diana Buzoianu also stated that a working group had been created at the Ministry of Environment to manage the beach law.

The minister also announced that "a key report" would be developed in the coming period, which would draw attention to some generalized problems.

"We have a situation of division of the Romanian coastline, of access and entry to the Romanian coastline, with private properties. A commission was created about a year ago following a famous corruption case, in which certain beaches were clearly identified as being illegally given into private ownership, although this should not happen, because beaches are the public property of the state, according to the Romanian Constitution. There is this commission that has been blocked for months. We have part of the latest analysis that is necessary and in the immediate future we will come and show including the way in which, over time, the beaches in Romania have been practically plundered and ended up in private ownership, although they should never have ended up there", Diana Buzoianu said.
