The government approved at its Thursday meeting a bill for the acceptance of the ELIXIR Consortium Agreement on the establishment of the European Life Sciences Infrastructure for Biological Information (ELIXIR), approved on April 22-23, 2013 in Copenhagen and entered into force on January 12, 2014.
According to a release from the Executive, through this piece of legislation, Romania accepts to become a member of ELIXIR, the European infrastructure "that brings together the most advanced biological data resources, software and training programs, facilitating access and collaboration between researchers from across Europe in key areas such as medicine, agriculture, the environment and bio-industry. By joining this infrastructure, Romania consolidates its position in genomics research and life sciences, aligning with European standards and best practices."
Romania's financial contribution to this infrastructure is 120,000 euros annually, the amount being allocated from the budget of the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Transformation, the cited source specifies.
