Gov't borrows over RON 3 billion on Thursday off commercial banks

The Ministry of Finance (MF) on Thursday borrowed almost RON 3.036 billion off commercial banks in two issues of benchmark bonds, one of which comprised bonds of a residual maturity of 19 months and an average yield of 6.1% per annum, according to data published by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

The nominal value of the issue was RON 500 million, and the banks offered almost RON 1.831 billion.

An additional auction is scheduled for Friday to borrow another RON 75 million at the yield set on Thursday for the bonds.

Also, the MF borrowed RON 1.67 billion in an issue of bond certificates of a residual a maturity of 58 months and an average yield of 6.67% per annum.

The nominal value of the issue was RON 500 million, and the banks offered RON 1.795 billion.

MF has planned for June 2024 to borrow RON 6.2 billion off commercial banks, to which RON 750 million can be added in additional sessions of non-competitive offers related to bond auctions.

The total amount of RON 6.95 billion is RON 1.06 billion higher than the one scheduled for May 2024 of RON 5.89 billion, and it is intended for public debt refunding and government deficit financing.
