The government is convening today in an extraordinary meeting to consider an emergency ordinance under which a crisis state will be declared in the market for crude oil and/or petroleum products and measures established to protect the economy and the public during this crisis.

The decision was taken on Monday in a task force established to analyse increases in fuel prices and identify solutions to mitigate the impact on the economy and the public, convened by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.

"Following the discussions, it was decided that the government will pass on Tuesday an emergency ordinance declaring a crisis state in the market for crude oil and/or petroleum products and establishing measures to protect the economy and the public during this crisis," the government reported

During the crisis state, protective measures applicable for a period of 6 months will be set up, with the possibility of successive extension for intervals of no more than 3 months, as long as the circumstances that determined the establishment of the crisis state persist.

The markups on gasoline, diesel fuel and the raw materials used to obtain them would be capped hroughout the chain of economic activity.

At the same time, business operators would be able to conduct exports and/or intra-community deliveries of gasoline and diesel fuel exclusively with the prior written consent of the Ministry of the Economy, Digitalisation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism and the Ministry of Energy.

For the crisis state, the amount of biofuel in gasoline is reduced to lower the final price.

Also, the ministries of finance, economy, and energy, together with the Competition Council, will permanently monitor the market and evaluate any other measures that might be required.
