Interim Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Sorin Grindeanu stated on Wednesday evening, in respect to the Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) meeting scheduled on Thursday which will discuss Russian drones entering our territory, that Romania must be firmer, also pointing out that all decisions must be closely coordinated with the NATO allies, primarily with the US.
"Firstly, we need to be more firm. In my view, we did not show enough firmness regarding what happened in the past weeks. And yes, I agree with President Trump, everything that violates NATO airspace with aircraft, drones and so on, here there is no room for errors, because these are not errors with what happened in Poland two weeks ago. These are attempts, in my view, without being a specialist, these are attempts of the Russian Federation against NATO states," Grindeanu stated at Antena 3 CNN private television station, when asked about the CSAT meeting that will tackle the drones entering our country's territory and whether Romania should do more in this respect.
He stated that any decision Romania makes should be closely coordinated with NATO allies, primarily with the US .
"There is an extremely important NATO base at Kogalniceanu, where there are troops from several countries. Our decisions must always be made in consultation with the NATO allies and I believe that this is happening, but sometimes, probably it depends on the national characteristics and firmness of each partner state or NATO member... But yes, we must be firmer, because I believe that is the only way the Russians will understand," Grindeanu stated.
The Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) is meeting on Thursday at the Cotroceni Palace, with the main topic of the session being the security of national airspace.
