Hundreds of Romanian children who have studied abroad in recent years, where they stayed with their working parents, were repatriated last year and enrolled in schools in Arad County, with up to 12 applications per day for the equivalence of studies registered at present, informs Agerpres.
Arad school inspector general Marius Gondor told AGERPRES on Friday that every day there are between 5 and 12 applications for the equivalence of studies for children from repatriated families. Since the beginning of this school year, 85 applications have already been registered, while last year more than 330 children were admitted to schools.
"There are children who have done different forms of education in other countries, most of them coming from Germany, Italy, Spain or the UK. They apply for equivalence to continue their studies in our schools, which is done on the basis of documents they have to present, but we also have many situations where they don't have documents. In these cases, the children are tested in order to be assigned to an appropriate class, depending on their level of knowledge," explained the head of the Arad County School Inspectorate.
Some of the repatriated children have difficulties in speaking Romanian at school, either because they were born abroad or because they left the country at an early age.
In Arad County there are about 62,000 children registered in the pre-university system, who attend 146 state schools and 25 private schools.
