The development of the IT sector is one of the Romanian government's priorities, with focus placed on the implementation of 5G technologies, cloud services, the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) and of the concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI), said Secretary of State with the Ministry of Communications and Information Society (MCSI) Ionut-Valeriu Andrei at the Central and Eastern Europe Innovation Roundtable event organized in Warsaw.
"It is essential that Central and Eastern European countries have a synergistic, concerted approach to the sustainable development of the IT industry and the digital economy in the region, capable to lead to the creation of a hub that is truly competitive in the global economy. The development of the IT sector counts to the priorities of the Romanian government, with focus on the implementation of 5G technologies, cloud services, as well as on the development of IoT and AI," Andrei said, as cited in a MCSI release
Attending the Warsaw roundtable meeting, at the invitation of Poland's Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology Jadwiga Emilewicz, were government representatives at the level of ministers and secretaries of state in the ICT sector from Lithuania, Croatia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania, as well as business representatives from Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia.
The agenda of the debates focused on the development prospects foreseen by the international technology community for the region of Central and Eastern Europe.
"In this regard, Google CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized the huge potential for the development of the region's digital economy, thanks to performing education systems and openness to new technologies. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki expressed optimism as to the identification of the best solutions to combine the latest technological development with the region's human resource capabilities and the growing economy," the release said.
In the context of Romania's holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Romanian official invited the attendees to participate in the Digital Assembly 2019 event taking place June 13 - 14 June in Bucharest.
Digital Assembly 2019 is organized in partnership with the European Commission and MCSI and will bring together high level representatives and stakeholders from EU member states to discuss European digital policies and the implications of the latest technological developments. An interministerial conference will take place on June 12, in the run-up to the Digital Assembly 2019 forum.
