Following the violent disorders that occurred in recent days in Northern Ireland, a diplomat from Romania's Consulate General in Edinburgh traveled to Ballymena - Antrim County for meetings with representatives of the local authorities in Mid and East Antrim, the Romanian Embassy in London reported on Friday, Agerpres reports.
The Romanian consul responsible for liaison with Northern Ireland also discussed with the Inter-Ethnic Forum Ballymena organization, which provides support to the recent communities in the town, and with the Northern Ireland Police, the Embassy specified on Facebook.
The consul also participated on Friday in the meeting of the local police with representatives of the various communities affected by the violent protests of recent days, with representatives of the Romanian community in Northern Ireland also present at the discussions.
"The need to stop all violent actions was highlighted at the meeting. The Northern Irish authorities are handling all incidents, which have been classified as hate crimes directed mainly at immigrant communities, with the utmost seriousness, and have already initiated criminal proceedings against those involved," the diplomatic mission to the United Kingdom said.
According to the Embassy, the Northern Irish police indicated that they maintain the recommendations for people to avoid the areas where demonstrations are taking place or where movement is restricted.
