Industrial production decreased during the period January 1-April 30, 2025, compared to the same period last year, both in gross terms by 5.3% and in seasonally and working-day adjusted terms by 2.6%, according to data published Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
The evolution of industrial production in the first four months (gross series) was influenced by declines across all three industrial sectors: manufacturing industry: -6.1%; mining and quarrying: -2.1%; electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply: -0.9%.
In seasonally and working-day adjusted terms, the decline in industrial production was due to drops in: manufacturing: -3.1%; mining and quarrying: -1.7%; Meanwhile, the production and supply of electricity, thermal energy, gas, hot water, and air conditioning increased by 0.2%.
In April 2025, industrial production decreased compared to March 2025 in gross terms by 8.4%, due to decreases in all three sectors: electricity, thermal energy, gas, hot water, and air conditioning supply: -13.5%; manufacturing: -7.9%; mining and quarrying: -5.1%.
However, in seasonally adjusted terms, industrial production increased by 2.3% compared to March, due to growth in: manufacturing: +2.9%; electricity and energy-related supply: +0.1%. Only mining and quarrying recorded a decrease: -0.8%.
Compared to April 2024, gross industrial production fell by 9.6%, as a result of declines in: manufacturing: -11.3%; mining and quarrying: -3.9%.
The energy supply sector grew by 1.8%.
In seasonally and working-day adjusted terms, industrial production in April 2025 was 2.4% lower than in April 2024, due to decreases in: mining and quarrying: -3.4%; manufacturing: -2.9%. At the same time, energy production and supply rose 3.0%.
