The first international festival of comics, illustration and animation in Cluj-Napoca dedicated to young artists - the BD Platform - will take place between November 7 and 10 at the Matthias Corvin House, the Florin Piersic Cinema Art Museum and the Youth Center.
According to organisers, the festival is designed so contribute to the development of the cultural scene in Cluj, but also to the growth of expertise and professionalism in the field of sequential art. During the festival, young artists will have an opportunity to exhibit their creations in Cluj-Napoca, to start a dialogue with the public in exhibition spaces or in thematic workshops and to connect with other artists, with representatives of publishing houses or of the professional and academic environment.
"The theme of the first edition encourages participants to explore new horizons and go beyond conventional boundaries through creativity and innovation. Starting from the classic call 'Think outside the box', the festival extends to young artists the invitation to explore storytelling in three different areas - illustration, animation and comics - either through experimental techniques, unusual stories, interactions and sequentiality or mix of narrative techniques. Out of 298 entries, a number of 201 projects were pre-selected and entered the competition in the three categories: 108 comic book projects, 64 illustration projects and 40 animation projects. The jury of the festival, made up of important professionals, will designate the winners of the three sections," reads a press release of the organisers issued on Monday.
The festival is initiated by the Artivistory Association, in partnership with the University of Art and Design of Cluj-Napoca, the Art Museum of Cluj-Napoca, the Florin Piersic Cinema Hall and made possible with financial support from the Cluj-Napoca City Hall and Local Council.
