Police officers with the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime are going to submit to the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) a notification regarding a "Distributed Denial of Service" cyber attack on a news site, between September 7 and 8, Romanian Police Press Office informs.

"Distributed Denial of Service is a type of cyber attack, through which the attacker tries to make the delivery of a service impossible, by preventing access to that service. As a rule, these attacks are carried out by overloading a computer system with data requests, the system in question being unable to deliver the services it normally offered," says the quoted source, told Agerpres.

The notification will be forwarded to DIICOT - the Central Structure, in order to continue the investigations, in terms of committing crimes of disrupting the operation of computer systems and illegal operations with computer devices or programmes.

Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca requested, on Thursday, emergency measures from the qualified institutions, following the cyber attack reported by the online publication G4Media, according to a Government briefing.

"The government takes all the necessary measures to protect the freedom of expression and the freedom of the press. Our democracy depends on the functioning of the independent press and we must protect it. Any attack on the press targets the basic values of our society," Prime Minister Ciuca is quoted as saying.
