Romanian tennis player Irina Begu (35), 121st in the world ranking, announced in a post on Instagram on Thursday that she decided to take a break from tennis, without mentioning how long it will be.
"After some time to reflect, I feel ready to share an update with you. This year I've been facing some health and energy challenges, and I realized I need to listen to my body and take better care of myself, Begu said.
"That's why, after Iasi, I've decided to take a break from tennis - without putting a timeline on it. This is not a goodbye, just a pause so I can focus on my health and well-being," Begu pointed out.
Romanian tennis player Irina Begu ended her 2025 season on a high note, winning the WTA 250 final in Iasi by defeating Switzerland's Jil Teichmann in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5.
Begu expressed gratitude to her coaches, Victor Crivoi and Lucian Nicolescu, for their support, dedication and shared memories over recent years. She also thanked her fans for standing by her throughout her career.
Begu becomes the second Romanian player to end the season early, following Ana Bogdan (32), who concluded her season on 1 August.
