Romania's Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu on Monday welcomed Italy's ambassador Alfredo Maria Durante Mangoni at the request of the Italian official to discuss among other things the execution of the European arrest warrants and recognition of criminal judgments.
"The case law in the field of judicial co-operation in criminal matters was one of the subjects addressed, with the two officials focusing on issues of shared interest regarding the execution of European arrest warrants and the recognition of court decisions in criminal matters, as well as measures to be taken to streamline this activity of international judicial co-operation, including at the legislative level in both countries, if required. Another point of high interest on the Italian side is the consolidation of the anti-mafia legislation in both countries, to which the Romanian official showed openness," reads a press statement released by the Justice Ministry, Agerpres.ro informs.
According to the ministry, the officials pointed out that although in 2021 the Romanian Ministry of Justice responded positively to the invitation to set up, together with the Italian Ministry of Justice, a working group on international abduction of children, the representatives of the two ministries in this working group have already been appointed, but the working group has not had any meetings so far and the two officials have agreed to start the works immediately and to make up for the delays in 2021, boosting its activity.
