The head coach of the Romanian national team, Mircea Lucescu, said on Friday night that the 3-0 victory against Kosovo in the League of Nations is important, but he stressed that his players must keep paying attention because surprises can appear from any opponent.
"It's an important victory, very important, because it gives us confidence and hope. I'm interested in the evolution. It was just a match, nothing happened. We have to be very careful in the future, prepare very seriously for each individual match because surprises in football can come from anyone," said Lucescu to Digisport.
"The merit of this victory also belongs to the coaches who were before me at the national team, Edi Iordanescu, Contra, Radoi... all who contributed to the formation of this group of talented players, who surely needed something extra to take a step forward. Today we controlled the game, we knew how to build, we knew how to keep possession when we had to, we knew how to press them by leaving spaces behind them... we used the long balls when needed because when you have speed players in attack, as we had today, it's easier to play with long balls," added the main coach.
Mircea Lucescu says that he wants all the players to be in shape and that it will be difficult for him to choose the first eleven.
"So far we have only played one match, those who entered along the way did it only to feel part of the team. Their turn will come and they must rise to the level of those who played today in the first half. I don't find it hard to choose, more than it be hard for me to choose the players who have to play," he explained.
The Romanian national football team, on Mircea Lucescu's debut, defeated the Kosovo team without any right of appeal, 3-0 (1-0), on Friday evening, at the Fadil Volkri Stadium in Prishtina, in Group C2 of the League of Nations.
Romania will play the next match on Monday, at the Steaua Stadium in Bucharest, against Lithuania (21:45).
