The official premiere of the play Mary Stuart, a contemporary adaptation by British playwright Robert Icke based on Friedrich Schiller's classic play, directed by Andrei Serban, is scheduled for Thursday and Friday at 7:00 PM at the Studio Hall of the "I.L. Caragiale" National Theatre in Bucharest, infrom agerpres.ro.
The cast and creative team bringing the play to life include names such as: Raluca Aprodu and Ofelia Popii (who alternately play the roles of Queen Elizabeth and Mary Stuart), Nicoleta Lefter (Mary Stuart), Mihai Calin, Florin Aioane/Stefan Mihai/Tudor Cucu Dumitrescu, Conrad Mericoffer, Marius Bodochi, Emilian Oprea, Mihai Calota, Ciprian Nicula, Florin Calbajos, the National Theatre of Bucharest informed on Wednesday.
The direction is signed by Andrei Serban, with Daniela Dima as associate director, set design by Helmut Sturmer, costumes by Corina Gramosteanu, music by Alexei Turcan, and video by Andrei Cozlac. The translation is by Irina Velcescu, and the stage adaptation belongs to Daniela Dima.
The following performances are scheduled for January 10, 11, and 12, 2025, at 7:00 PM.
According to the National Theatre of Bucharest, Andrei Serban has always been drawn to contemporary reinterpretations of great classical texts, and his collaboration with Robert Icke, one of the most talented British directors of his generation, represents a peak meeting between two different theatrical visions.
Mary Stuart, directed by Robert Icke, premiered at the Almeida Theatre in London in 2016 and enjoyed remarkable success.
