The first wind power plants could be installed in the Black Sea in 2027 - 2028, the location having a huge potential Romania will probably never be able to fully exploit, Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja declared for AGERPRES.

"Sometime this autumn we will pass a law for the exploitation of wind energy in the Black Sea, after which a rather long process will follow, of outlining together with the National Authority for Mineral Resources these exploitation perimeters, plus working out the environmental and security approvals in a very complicated region, with all the inherent implications. I hope that starting in 2027 - 2028 we will also see the first wind power plant projects in the Black Sea, because the World Bank tells us that we have a huge potential there, 75 GW of wind power, a potential Romania will probably never be able to fully exploit. But anyway, 10 - 20 GW can be tapped into in 10 - 15 years from now," said Burduja.

He reminded that the Energy Ministry put the bill on the Black Sea offshore wind energy up for public debate as early as on July 17, 2023 and that there are plans afoot to devise a correct legislative framework right from the beginning.

"If we have the right legislation, investments will come too. If not, we'll repeat the experience of the offshore law that targeted the exploitation of Black Sea gas - investors were blocked for years because of the unfavorable legislative framework, but the National Liberal Party changed the law and managed to correct it, so that today we have a final investment decision for the Neptun-Deep offshore project," stressed the Energy minister.
