The Ministry of Culture is calling on all cultural institutions in the country, as well as all owners of historical monuments, to pay increased attention to fire prevention measures, with the approach of the cold season and the commissioning of heating systems.

"We are concerned about the safety of cultural heritage and, at the same time, the safety of people - of the public and of those who, day after day, use these facilities. Unfortunately, experience shows us that negligence or lack of periodic checks can lead to dramatic situations. Protecting heritage and human lives is our common responsibility. Through the care of each of us, we ensure that museums, libraries, theaters and all other cultural spaces remain safe places, where the community can enjoy culture in complete safety. We thank all those who are actively involved in this endeavor and remind you that safety is not only a legal obligation, but also a proof of respect for culture and people," the Ministry of Culture said on Thursday, in a statement sent to AGERPRES.

The Ministry of Culture thanks the military firefighters of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations for their support and collaboration, recalling the interventions at Maldar's Mansion (Valcea), the "old school" in Bujoreni (Teleorman) and the inter-institutional tactical exercise at the Osenesc Village Museum in Negresti-Oas (Satu Mare).

Based on the recommendations of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the ministry recalls several essential measures, such as: checking and maintaining boilers, stoves and chimneys, exclusively by authorized personnel; cleaning, checking and repairing chimneys to prevent soot deposits and the risk of fire; insulating chimneys from construction elements such as wooden frames; eliminating improvisations in heating or electrical installations; storing combustible materials away from heat sources; periodically testing fire alarm systems and checking fire extinguishers; training staff to quickly recognize signs of danger and react appropriately.

For practical recommendations and detailed guides on what to do before, during and after an emergency situation, the Ministry of Culture invites the public and institutions to consult the national platform fiipregatit.ro, dedicated to prevention measures against fires generated by heating systems.
